The Press and Poetry of Modern Persia

Edward G. Browne’s classic study, partly based on the manuscript work of Mirza Muhammad ‘Ali Khan Tarbivat, makes available his survey of the journalism and poetry of the Iranian revolution of 1906-1911. The book’s comprehensive examination of the flowering of the Persian press during this period offers startling similarities and contrasts to the 1979 Revolution.

The first part of the book is devoted to an essay which analyzes the numerous Persian newspapers that were published before and after the Constitutional Revolution. The second section consists of selections of Persian revolutionary poetry compiled and translated by Professor Browne.

Still as fresh and relevant as when it was written, this comprehensive survey of the political and literary scene during the Constitutional period offers any serious student indispensable material for an understanding of revolutionary Iran.
